Holiday TFRs

While many pilots gave themselves the gift of flight, those navigating around presidential retreats were forced to double-check their charts and flight routes — and NOTAMs. The usual presidential hideouts in Camp David, Md., and Crawford, Texas, served up a couple TFRs to keep unwanted aircraft away. In the Camp David area, the agency pushed out the TFR to a 10-nm TFR radius below 18,000 feet beginning at 0845 local on Saturday, Dec. 21, and continuing through 0915 local today, Dec. 26. During that time, the restrictions prohibited practice instrument approaches within the TFR. All operations — except military, law enforcement, and med-evac — were prohibited in the 0-5 nm ring below 12,500 feet. In Texas, the TFR goes in effect from 12:00 p.m. today, Dec. 26, through 12:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, local time and prohibits flight operations within a 30-nautical-mile radius and below 18,000 feet MSL of the President’s ranch near Crawford. In New York, there will be New Year’s restrictions including one again around the Statue of Liberty. Check your local listings (flight service station) for all the details.
