Although some may consider it a smugmobile, Mercedes's diminutive SmartCar has gained a worldwide following and a market. The European version has a nifty three-cylinder diesel with impressive fuel specifics that a company called FlyEco has adapted for aircraft use. The engine has all the usual suspects -- high-pressure common-rail injection, turbocharging, and liquid and oil cooling.
