AOPA Fly-Ins Are Back

0

AOPA last year launched a series of regional fly-ins to replace the annual Summit, and this year they’re doing it again. The season launched last weekend with a fly-in to Salinas, California, and continues June 6 at AOPA headquarters in Frederick, Maryland. A pilot information packet with the fly-in procedures for Frederick is posted (PDF) online. The Salinas event drew about 2,600 people, AOPA said, despite overcast and IFR conditions for part of the day. The agenda at the fly-ins includes a town-hall meeting with AOPA President Mark Baker, a pancake breakfast, seminars, safety briefings, exhibits, social events and a program to encourage rusty pilots to return to aviation. After Frederick, the events will be held in Minnesota, Colorado and Tennessee.

A Minneapolis fly-in is set for Aug. 22 at Anoka County-Blaine Airport. The Colorado Springs event will be held on Sept. 26 at Colorado Springs Municipal Airport. This year’s fly-ins will wrap up Oct. 10 in Tullahoma, at Tullahoma RegionalAirport. The events are free and open to everyone, although tickets must be bought for most of the meals.
