New Mexico Citation On The Block

A key plank in the election platform of New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez will likely be nailed down in a couple weeks as the state gets rid of the Citation Bravo that was operated by the governor’s office. The plane became a focal point of Martinez’s campaign and she called it an “ultimate symbol of waste and excess.” It’s not clear how the governor is getting around the sparsely populated state, which has relatively few airports with airline service.

The aircraft was bought when Gov. Bill Richardson was in office in 2005. It was purchased new at a price of $5.5 million. Although used business jet prices are recovering as inventories drop, the taxpayers of New Mexico will likely take a bath on the sale. Six companies are bidding for the right to sell the plane.
