Celebrating 20 years of providing integrated avionics and aircraft safety systems, Avidyne announced today that it received Technical Standard Order (TSO) approval and an Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) from the FAA for installation of the IFD540 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM system in more than 1,000 aircraft makes and models. The IFD540 gives aircraft owners a truly exceptional choice over anything else available today for GPS and VHF NAV/COM capabilities, said Patrick Herguth, Avidynes chief operating officer. The IFD540 is the centerpiece of Avidynes previously announced stack of plug-and-play panel-mounted avionics, which also includes the AMX240 Audio Panel and the AXP340 Mode S ADS-B Transponder, both of which are already TSOd. A smaller-screen version of the IFD540 called the IFD440 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM is planned for availability later this year.

Avidyne also announced that it will be hosting product training seminars at EAA AirVenture 2014. Adventure Flight Training President Trip Taylor will provide twice-daily training seminars on the new IFD540 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM. These one-hour training seminars will be held daily at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Monday-Thursday (July 28-31, 2104). In my IFD540 training seminars, I will cover all the basic operations, but more importantly, I will focus on showing pilots how to use the IFD540 in real-life, hard IFD situations, said Taylor.Avidyne also announced today that its new IFD540 and IFD440 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM systems include integrated WiFi and Bluetooth capability for wireless connectivity in the cockpit. Activation of these capabilities will be forthcoming in future software releases.
