Avidyne Software Upgrade Cancels AD

The FAA has certified a software upgrade for Avidyne that cancels the emergency airworthiness directive (AD) issued in late May and adds some features for the IFD540 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM systems. The earlier glitch could result in incorrect course indications during RNAV approaches and required an amendment to the flight manual. Release 10.1 not only fixes the issue but sets up Avidyne’s gear for the future according to CEO Dan Schwinn. “Release 10.1 software brings many new features and functions, including ADS-B, to the IFD540 that give it greater utility and make it even easier to use,” said Schwinn. “Along with the newly-certified IFD440, Avidyne now offers a complete suite of next-generation, ADS-B capable panel-mounted avionics and a platform for the future.”

Release 10.1 is field-loadable for the IFD540 and adds a variety of convenience features, mostly centered around increased functionality of the touch screen interface. The upgrade is free for all existing owners of IFD540s and new customers can order through authorized dealers.
