The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association has named Bernard Gervais as its new president and CEO. Gervais is only the third person to fill the post and replaces Kevin Psutka, who announced his retirement and then took a new job with the Air Line Pilots Association in February. Gervais will be formally introduced to the membership at COPA’s annual general meeting in Winnipeg on June 20. Gervais has been a pilot since 2001 and was the former board chairman of the Quebec Aviators and Bush Pilots Association.

In a video address following his appointment, Gervais said maintaining Canadian pilots’ freedom to fly is paramount and he will use contacts developed in his volunteer positions to keep the skies over Canada accessible to GA. Gervais is a private pilot who flies a Maule MX-7 on wheels, skis and floats.
