EAA Considers IMC Club Acquisition

The IMC Club, which has been growing with chapters across the country and the world since its launch about five years ago, may become an official EAA program, the two organizations announced this week at EAA AirVenture. “Our discussions with the IMC Club began as all of us looked for a way to give long-term stability for the IMC concept, which enhances safety for aviators with instrument ratings and others involved in flight,” said Rick Larsen, EAA vice president of communities and member programs. “EAA has always been about the sharing of knowledge and information among its members, and the IMC Club concept is another way to bring that to EAA members and other aviators by possibly leveraging the EAA chapter network.”

The two groups signed a letter of intent at Oshkosh, which they said is a “preliminary step toward further discussion.” No commitments have yet been made regarding what will happen next. Radek Wyrzykowski, founder and president of the IMC Club, said it his responsibility to work toward strategies that will benefit the organization. “Our members and chapters could gain access to a significant additional benefits, resources, and communication channels to promote our mission of aviation safety to a much wider audience,” he said. “I am very excited about this potential.”IMC Clubchapters offer organized “hangar flying” focused on building proficiency in instrument flying, using real-world scenarios to engage members and allow them to share and build their experience.
