Five sets of kit wings under assembly on the AirVenture grounds this week will go to five EAA chapters across North America after they’re completed. The wing-building program, Give Flight, partners EAA with three kitplane makers – Sonex Aircraft, Van’s Aircraft and Zenith Aircraft, along with Aircraft Spruce and Specialty, which is donating tools for the project. It’s hoped that the chapters receiving the wings will complete the airplanes and start flying clubs. They are in Bolingbrook, Illinois; Ottawa, Ontario; Snohomish, Washington; Meriden, Connecticut; and Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Just like last year’s One Week Wonder airplane-building challenge, EAA has recruited chapter members, volunteers and visitors to help with the construction. “The Give Flight project provides a platform to talk up two of EAA’s core offerings: homebuilding and chapters,” said Charlie Becker, EAA director of chapters, communities, and homebuilt community manager. “By encouraging attendees to come by and pull a rivet on a wing that will eventually be a completed aircraft, we are hoping to open some eyes to the idea of building an aircraft. Since the wings are being given to five chapters it will also be a great opportunity to talk about joining your local chapter.”
