The first production HondaJet made its first flight last Friday and the company calls it “another milestone toward aircraft certification and entry into service in 2015.” The aircraft took off from Piedmont Triad International Airport, flew for 84 minutes, and got as high as 15,500 feet and as fast as 348 knots. It will be off to the first in line in the order book as soon as the aircraft achieves FAA certification. The company is building airplanes in anticipation of the entry into service in 2015.

With this first flight, the HondaJet program has entered the next exciting phase as we prepare for delivery, said Honda Aircraft Company President and CEO Michimasa Fujino. Todays celebration is the culmination of extensive engineering and production efforts, and this is an important achievement in bringing the worlds most advanced light jet to market. Certification will mark the culmination of one of the longest business aircraft development programs ever undertaken. Honda started thinking about the airplane in 1980s and flew the prototype in 2003.
