NTSB investigators are en route to Mexico to help find the cause of the fatal crash of a U.S.-registered Learjet 25. All seven on board were killed when the jet went down in mountainous terrain early on Sunday, including popular Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera, several of her staff members, and the flight crew. The jet had departed from Monterrey about 3:30 a.m. and headed south toward Mexico City. The crash occurred about 70 miles from the departure airport.

According to Mexico’s Ministry of Communications and Transport, the FAA already has conducted a review to verify that the airplane and crew were properly licensed and certificated, and found that “everything is in order.” The jet was registered to Starwood Management of Las Vegas, and was built in 1969, according to The Associated Press. A government spokesman told the AP that the wreckage was strewn across an area of about 900 feet, and there was “nothing recognizable” to be found at the site. The Mexican government will investigate the cause of the crash.
