AVwebs weekly dig into aviation developments uncovered news that two states passed laws that include aviation in recreational activity protections, Lightspeed launched its long-promised Zulu PFX headset, the Cessna TTx was approved for flight into known icing (FIKI) and Zenith Aircraft set the date for its annual Hangar Day. On June 25, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a law that includes recreational aviation. It protects landowners from liability arising from recreational use of their property, so its anticipated airstrip owners will likely be more receptive to transient pilots. A day earlier, South CarolinaGovernor Nikki Haley signed the law that provides landowners in South Carolina a level of liability protection when allowing pilots to fly aircraft onto their property. Lightspeed Aviation today announced the launch of Zulu PFX, its new top-of-the-line ANR aviation headset. The headset was first revealed at Oshkosh in 2013, and has continued in development since. “We promised that we would take the time to develop something very special before we released it for sale, and field tests with over 50 pilots in dozens of aircraft and helicopters have confirmed that we have been successful in doing this,” said Teresa De Mers, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing, & Customer Support for Lightspeed.

Cessna Aircraft Company announced that it has received Federal Aviation Administration certification of the Flight Into Known Icing (FIKI) system for the high-performance Cessna TTx propeller aircraft. Cessna said the FIKI system extends the TTx’s mission capabilities and enables pilots to file flight plans for varying weather conditions. It can provide up to two-and-a-half hours of protection from most ice attaching to the airframe, with minimal impact on the performance. Zenith Aircraft will host its 23rd Annual Hangar DayFly In and Open House on Saturday, Sept. 20. The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is expected to attract hundreds of builders who have completed, are building, or expect to purchase an all-metal Zenith Aircraft kit. Activities actually begin the day before the Open House when a large group of prospective builders will show up for a workshop and a series of seminars on topics ranging from powerplants, avionics, wiring along with weight and balance calculating.
