New services for pilots are now available online from Lockheed Martin Flight Services, the company said this week. Pilots can register online for access to the Automated Flight Service Station Pilot Web Portal and a new Adverse Condition Alerting Service. The pilot portal allows pilots to access the same briefing information and weather graphics available to Lockheed’s flight-service specialists. The alerting service will send notices to pilots about new adverse conditions specific to their filed flight plans via text, email, and Iridium satellite devices. The short alert messages identify the type of adverse condition (such as TFRs, NOTAMs, AIRMETs and SIGMETs) and the flight plan to which it applies. Pilots then can contact LMFS for details.
However, pilots will soon be able to retrieve full information about the adverse condition directly from the web portal, without having to contact a specialist, Lockheed said. The alert system also sends reminders to close flight plans that have not been closed 15 minutes after the ETA. More details about the alert system are posted at the LMFS website. “These new services will enhance safety for general aviation pilots and make it easier than ever to file flight plans with LMFS,” said Jim Derr, director of Lockheed Martin Flight Services.
