Pilots who are looking to upgrade their instrument skills will find plenty of opportunities to explore Redbird’s training simulators at EAA AirVenture this week. Redbird has provided eight simulators to the new IFR Proficiency Center, hosted by IMC Club and EAA. Pilots can sign up for simulator sessions at the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators exhibit, each morning from Monday to Saturday. The IFR center, located just east of the air-traffic-control tower, will host two talks per day with experts from Jeppesen, and the IMC Club will host a model chapter meeting. Redbird also will host the Redbird Flying Challenge Cup finals at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The 12 finalists, chosen from more than 500 competitors, range in age from 15 to 71, and have gathered from around the U.S., Australia, and the Caribbean.

The Redbird tent (Booth 304) also will feature simulators where visitors can try their hand at the same challenges flown in the competition. The tent also will host the Dusty simulator the company built for the new Disney animated film, Planes: Fire & Rescue. Visitors are welcome to fly the simulator, which features art and voices from the film. Also on display will be the Sun Flyer, a single-seat solar electric airplane making its public debut. The technology demonstrator was developed by Aero Electric Aircraft Corp., Bye Aerospace and PC-Aero, and flew for the first time last week, in Germany. The builders plan to develop the first practical all-electric airplane for general aviation, and they are collaborating with Redbird to offer training.
