A Delta MD-88 overran a runway at New York’s La Guardia Airport just after 11 a.m. Thursday and it appears there were no serious injuries to the 125 passengers and five crew. It was snowing at the time. The aircraft came to rest with its nose on a berm after going through a fence. The aircraft was evacuated and buses were sent to pick up the passengers, all of whom were accounted for inside the terminal within about 30 minutes of the incident. Of course, social media lit up with news of the mishap.

Within seconds of their feet touching the ground, numerous passengers were on their phones tweeting, Facebooking and Instagramming news of their ordeal. Meanwhile, the airline issued a brief statement. “Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe,” the airline said. “Delta will work with all authorities and stakeholders to look into what happened in this incident.” The aircraft was on a flight from Atlanta. Six passengers reported injuries. Medical staff also evaluated five pregnant women aboard the flight. The airport was closed for three hours when one runway was reopened.
