The Weekender: Pumpkins, Homecoming, And A Unique Island Air Show

0

With fall arriving, SocialFlight has plenty of seasonal events to check out in the Northeast. The Adirondack Regional Airport, in Lake Clear, New York, celebrates PumpkinFest on Saturday, with games, music, food, a hay maze, silent auction, and plenty of pumpkins. The fund-raising event is sponsored by North Country Life Flight, a not-for-profit medevac service serving northern New York State, celebrating 25 years in operation. A little further to the south, at Frederick Municipal Airport in Maryland, AOPA is holding its “Homecoming” fly-in, also on Saturday. The event is back after a few years’ hiatus, and AOPA welcomes everyone to come check out their headquarters and enjoy the exhibits, food, seminars and more. Go to AOPA’s website for details about flying in, the airspace restrictions there require extra pre-planning.

Heading west, aviators can find a pancake breakfast plus an aerobatic airshow at the Shawnee Airport Air Expo in Oklahoma. Young Eagles flights will be offered, and you can take a ride in a helicopter for $40. Parking and admission are free. Heading even further west — about as far west as you can go — the Catalina Air Show runs Friday and Saturday at this beautiful little tourist island, off the coast of Los Angeles. The show features a roster of both aerobatic performers and musical groups, a street fair with vendor booths, and food trucks. Weekend VIP packages offer hotel rooms and helicopter transportation from Long Beach. You can find aviation events and places to go anytime using the free SocialFlight website or app.
