Viewport Welcomes Youth Inside Airport Fence

While security appears to be paramount at many airports, the Ventura County 99s are inviting people, especially the young, inside the fence to its Viewport, a new aircraft viewing and picnic area at Camarillo Airport in California. With help from the airport authority and other airport groups, the dedicated area is being built outside the Waypoint Cafe right on the ramp at the airport. “We’re trying to get young people involved,” 99s spokeswoman Linda Ehrlich told the Ventura County Star. “The pilot community is an aging community. Young people are going to keep it going.”

The Viewport will have benches, a miniature runway and tower and include displays on the history of aviation. County and airport officials said the viewing area will help educate people about the economic and social value of the airport.
