Ohio State University has received a gift of $10 million to support aviation education and research on campus, the school announced this week at EAA AirVenture. The gift from the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation will support construction of a new facility at Don Scott Field, with state-of-the-art flight simulators, research labs and classrooms. More than 500 students a year study aviation at the school and take part in its outreach programs. “The current infrastructure is basically unchanged in the last 50 years,” said Christine Zavodnik, a flight instructor at the school. “These improvements will benefit not only students and faculty, but also local businesses and the community.” Women in Aviation International also announced recently that it has awarded $10 million in scholarships since its program began in 1995.

WAI scholarships are awarded in all areas of aviation, from engineering to maintenance to flying. Scholarships range from type ratings to a cash grant to fulfill any aviation dream. An applicant doesn’t have to be a student, a pilot or a woman, but they do have to be a WAI member. Scholarships for 2016 will be awarded at WAI’s annual conference in Nashville, Tennessee, in March.
