Wingless Glider Crashes Into Reno Parking Lot

A glider pilot suffered only minor injuries after high winds reportedly tore the wings off his aircraft and he parachuted to safety on the roof of a parkade in Reno, Nevada, on Sunday. The unidentified pilot launched from soaring mecca Minden, about 40 miles south of Reno, on Sunday afternoon and was on his way back when the incident occurred. Winds were reported to be about 35 mph at the time.

The fuselage of the glider came down in a parking lot next to a motel and when the motel manager went out to see what the racket was all about he saw the parachute descending onto the roof of the parkade. A wing was found about a mile away and authorities were still searching for the other wing late Sunday.
