AVweb’s search of what’s new in aviation this week found ADS-B equipment updates from Aspen and FltPlan Go, a rebranding announcement from Oplite Technologies, and the revamp of the Catalina Air Show. Aspen Avionics announced its ATX100 ADS-B transceiver will now interface with the Garmin GNS 430W/530W series of GPS navigators. “Aspen designs products to work with what aircraft owners already have in their panels. This newly-approved interface allows aircraft owners to use their existing GPS source from Garmin’s GNS 430W/530W navigators and eliminates the need to install a costly antenna system, saving time and money,” said Mark Ferrari, vice president of sales and customer support. The ATX100 retails for $2,645.The FltPlan Go app for Android now supports four ADS-B receivers. Android users now have the same freedom and flexibility that iPad users enjoy. Currently, FltPlan Go supports the Dual XGPS170, Flight Data System’s Pathfinder, SkyRadar DX, and the iLevil AW ADS-B receivers on both the Android and iPad. By supporting a variety of different ADS-B units, FltPlan gives their users the freedom to choose which ADS-B receiver works best for them based on individual needs and price range.

Scheyden Precision Eyewear — a leader in performance eyewear and organizer of the Catalina Air Show — is working on the restructuring of the Scheyden Catalina Air Show, last held in fall 2014, to become a biennial event and keep what has become Catalina’s most thrilling event alive and well. Looking to become even better, adding sponsorships, donors, and more entertainment to an airshow of this caliber can increase island awareness and create even more excitement around an aviation experience like no other. The Catalina Air Show looks to have its finest event yet in early October of 2016.
