AVweb’s search of aviation news around the world found a new fire-containment product for air crews, a UAV safety campaign from the agricultural aviation industry, a new executive announced by Skanska USA, and a university scholarship for the 2015-2016 school year.Innovint Aircraft Interior GmbH, based in Hamburg, Germany, has developed the PED Containment Bag (CB) to contain fires caused by batteries of Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) in cockpit, cabin and cargo areas. The National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA) has launched a UAV safety campaign to raise awareness and prevent accidents between UAV operators and low-altitude manned aircraft. The first public outreach tool in the safety campaign is a UAV “safety stuffer” designed for aerial applicators to share with farmers and other agricultural stakeholders. NAAA has also produced a short video titled “Safe UAV Operations Around Low-Flying, Manned Aircraft.”

Skanska USA announced that Dwight Pullen has been hired as senior vice president and director of its Aviation Center of Excellence (COE). He will replace MacAdam Glinn, who moves into a new role as account manager and senior vice president for Skanska’s South Florida operations. Pullen will lead all business development and marketing for Skanska’s aviation pursuits and provide aviation construction market analysis throughout the U.S.After a successful launch of the inaugural Calvin L. Carrithers Aviation scholarship program in 2014, Globalair.com announced during Oshkosh AirVenture 2015 it will continue offering its blog writing scholarship to students enrolled in any accredited University Aviation Program for the 2015-2016 school year.
