AVweb’s weekly search of the news in the world of aviation turned up a new exhibit exploring the future of space travel, a major award for Civil Air Patrol, a partnership to support the Unmanned Aircraft System Community and approval of a new flight simulator for the Socata TBM-series aircraft. Space Center Houston’s newest exhibit, The Next Giant Leap: Beyond Planet Earth invites visitors to contemplate where humans will go from here. The exhibit opens Oct. 8 and continues through Jan. 18, 2015. Its hands-on elements offer a vision for the next 50 to 100 years of space travel: voyages to Mars, asteroid landings and even a trip to an ice-covered moon of Jupiter, where a buried sea could reveal signs of life. The Air Force Association has honored Civil Air Patrol with its 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of its more than 70 years of helping secure the American homeland, especially its service during World War II. Brig. Gen. Larry Myrick, CAP national vice commander, accepted the award during the association’s Air & Space Conference in National Harbor, Md. During the presentation ceremony CAP was recognized: “For selflessly protecting our shorelines and borders with personal aircraft … “

Global Aerospace, Inc., announced partnership with Waypoint Global Strategies to provide training and logistical support to the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) community and Global Aerospace customers through its industry leading SM4 Safety Program. Waypoint subsidiary company, Unmanned Safety Institute (USI), will also be providing customers with innovative safety resources and training.
