EAA has 18 down and 32 to go in its 50 Flags to Kitty Hawk initiative to commemorate the centennial of the Wright brothers' first powered flight. Another 13 members have been chosen to fly their states' flags to Kitty Hawk for a ceremony and declaration of their state's "day" at the Wright Brothers' National Memorial. Grand Aire is back in the air after two crashes on the same day prompted a voluntary flight suspension. Two of the charter operator's Dassault 20 jets crashed April 8. Three pilots died in one and two were injured in the other. Flight operations resumed Thursday after safety procedures were reviewed with staff.
