PREVIOUS RESULTS

We received over 800 responses to our question last week on ground obstructions. The majority (70 percent) of our respondents consider radio towers to be a flight hazard — 5 percent did not. Just 42 percent of those responding indicated they locate obstructions on VFR sectional charts prior to cross-country flying, while 7 percent stated they never bother to check their charts at all. The majority agreed that white strobes are easier to spot from a distance than red beacons. Many of the comments we received dealt with obstacle avoidance. As one person wrote, “The simplest solution is to stay up high.”
