The Weekender: Happy Fourth, Happy Flying

The Weekender’s Fourth of July will be packed with stuff to fly to and enjoy, as seen on the SocialFlight calendar. For Independence Day fun with grassroots flying, there’s the Ogle County Airport’s summer Best in the Midwest breakfast in Illinois. The fixings include pancakes, Eichmans ham and sausage, hash browns, eggs, blueberry topping, applesauce, orange juice and more. Enjoy grassroots flying at the scenic country airport and meet some of the most dedicated aviation enthusiasts around. The sixth annual Mansfield Airport Day and Car Show in Ohio also will take place Saturday, featuring military and civilian aircraft displays including the National Guard and Red Horse construction equipment. Then there’s the car show, plus Young Eagles flights.

At the Stinson Commemorative Air Force Independence Weekend event, historic airplanes will be open for rides Friday through Sunday, including a B-17, B-25 and C-47. World War II-era aircraft and vintage cars will be on display throughout the event, and there will be free family activities and a variety of food trucks on the grounds.The 2015 Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show & Balloon Festival in Michigan will have something for everyone and is already on for the rest of the week through Sunday.
