The Weekender: Fall Foliage Flying

The Weekender has some scenic seasonal flying in the works, thanks to SocialFlight, which found a Fall Foliage Fun Day (both Saturday and Sunday) at Warren Ohio’s 80OH, Sloas Field. The event will be at the Ernie Hall Aviation Museum, and on the grass runway enjoy a biplane ride in a 1929 Travel Air. Rides will be offered throughout each day, along with hayrides, a pumpkin patch and fall refreshments. Other weekend-long events include the Vintage Sailplane Association East Coast Sailplane Rally, inviting all to fly or drive in Friday through Sunday at Massey Aerodrome in Maryland. See gliders from the 1930s through the 1960s. There will be two tow planes, a Piper Pawnee and Cessna 182. Glider rides and biplane rides will be available.

Thefirst Spicewood Airport Music Fly-In will be held Saturday just west of Austin, with a full day’s worth of Texas music booked starting at noon. If you fly in, bring your tie-downs and enjoy free camping with your airplane. Check the arrival procedures for 88R. In Bennington, Vermont, Saturday’sChili Cook-Off Fly-In is timed for Vermont peak fall foliage color. Various vendors will compete for selection with the best chili recipe.
