The Weekender: Father’s Day Fly-Ins

0

Father’s Day weekend has lots in store on SocialFlight and The Weekender only has to decide which way to head — east or west. Starting with Washington state, there’s an all-day, family-friendly event in store, hosted by EAA Chapter 782. The Columbia River Chapter Air Meet will take place on Saturday at Pearson Field. It kicks off with a pancake breakfast, followed by seminars including homebuilding, angle-of-attack indicators and ADS-B. Nine restaurants and kids’ activities and tours are within walking distance and camping on the field is available. On the eastern end, in Piseco, New York, the Speculator Pilots Reunion welcomes all to K09 Friday through Sunday. Enjoy the hometown hospitality and natural beauty of the Adirondack region. The weekend’s events include fly-by demos, a seaplane parade, safety seminars and barbecue at the Oxbow Inn.

Back in Washington, a commemorative warbird event will be held at Paine Field on Saturday — the Flying Heritage Collection aircraft celebrating Pacific Legends Day. Father-and-son teams will demonstrate warbirds including the P-51 Mustang, F6F Hellcat and a rare Mitsubishi A6M Zero. Museum admission also will get you entry to special events, a pilots’ autograph session and an up-close look at rare military aircraft and vehicles. In Pennsylvania, a variety of family fun is in store during the 26th annual Father’s Day Fly-In at Shreveport North, running Friday through Sunday. All aircraft capable of operating from a lighted, well-maintained 2600-by-70-foot runway are welcome. Footlight Ranch will feature barbecued chicken and New York steak dinners Friday and Saturday. Other activities include a sports car parade, games for pilots (and the Bear From the Air toy drop), airplane rides and flightline movies with popcorn each night. Camping sites and a rustic bunkhouse are available. For more on this weekend’s events around the country, visit SocialFlight.
