The Weekender: Independence Day Fly-Ins

0

Our weekly review of what to do in aviation on SocialFlight uncovered numerous Independence Day fly-ins and events-starting at the top with a fly-in at the nation’s highest airport. Our review was made easier and more encompassing by SocialFlight’s substantial upgrade to its free website which now allows users to customize the events they want to learn about and to see some 100,000 points of interest within walking distance of airports. On the 4th of July North America’s highest airport, Leadville, Colo., is hosting a fly-in/drive-in cookout with free hamburgers and hot dogs from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There will be aircraft displays and chance to win a “free” iPad Mini. Independence Day also brings what is billed as the “best breakfast in the Midwest,” to the Ogle County Airport, Mt. Morris, Ill. It starts at 7:00 a.m. and continues to 11:00 a.m.

Starting on the Friday the 4th and running three full days through Sunday, the AyreWolvez AyreShow at Gooding Municipal Airport, Twin Falls, Idaho will include helicopter and vintage warbirds on display and a mini VMF/MVA 214 Black Sheep reunion. From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., there will be an airshow on the 4th at Franklin County Airport, Sewanee, Tenn. The Townsend Festival of Flight, a “Deluxe Fly-In Breakfast,” with vintage aircraft, homebuilts and a Young Eagles Rally will take place on the 4th of July at the Townsend, Mont., Airport from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Finally, the Harnett Regional Jetport in Erwin, N.C., is asking pilots to fly in and help them celebrate the 4th at the “Star-Spangled Celebration” from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be free hamburgers, hot dogs and popcorn along with discounted cases of oil. Thank you, SocialFlight, for keeping us up to date on aviation events.
