The Weekender: Outings For Air, Land And Sea

The Weekender’s SocialFlight options include a couple of four-day excursions for those who want to start their weekends early. The Clear Lake Splash In, “the oldest and largest seaplane fly-in west of the Mississippi River,” will take place Thursday through Sunday at Lakeport, California. It kicks off with a free barbecue and continues with a Friday evening wine reception, seaplane demonstrations and contests on Saturday, ending with an evening cookout. Another four-day event also starts Thursday at the inaugural Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors Fly-In. See Cessna’s new Citation X and King Air and a P-51 Mustang staged along side a JFK car exhibit. There will be classic car displays at other venues around Telluride with shuttle service available for those who fly in, plus a pancake breakfast for pilots on Saturday.

On Sunday, St. Clair County International Airport in Michigan will hold itsannual open house for aviation, automotive and watercraft enthusiasts. Join visitors from Michigan, surrounding states and Canada for an EAA pancake breakfast and displays by the Civil Air Patrol, county and state emergency services, and U.S. Homeland Security.In Lawrenceville, Georgia, take a ride in Ron Alexander’s DC-3 when he visits the Gwinnett County Airport Saturday and Sunday. Flights will be offered from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day and can be pre-purchased on either day. Flights are unscheduled and filled on a first come, first served basis.
