The Weekender: Take A Tour Of The Tall Tower

0

The Weekender hopes you’ve recovered from Oshkosh, because there’s no rest for the weary on the SocialFlightcalendar. For starters, the July’s Skys airshow invites all to come early and stay late Saturday in Preston, Idaho. Watch aerobatic performers do their stuff and enjoy a glimpse of history as four World War II aircraft take part in the show. The warbirds also will be on display and available for rides. Flying in? Avgas is $4.75. Also Saturday, Front Range Airport in Watkins, Colorado, celebrates the tenth anniversary of its control tower. By the way, its claim to fame is the nation’s tallest GA tower. It’s also Pilot Appreciation Day, so fly in for pancakes, a runway safety talk and then a tower tour at noon. To reserve a slot for the tour, contact Laura at [email protected].

In Norridgewock, Maine, enjoy a Saturday full of aviation and other family-friendly events at the Central Maine Regional Airport Fly-In and Family Fun Fest. Start with breakfast, then watch flight demos, and take an airplane or helicopter ride. Don’t forget the candy drop and state police K-9 demonstration, plus an antique tractor display, raffles and a business expo. If that’s not enough to pack in, stay for the fireworks. Skymaster and O-2 owners are invited to Fremont, Ohio, for a full weekend fly-in including an owners forum, music, cookouts, breakfast and camping. Author and Vietnam veteran Mike Jackson will talk about the O-2 missions he flew. For more on this weekend’s events, visit SocialFlight.
