You're flying your newly purchased Cessna 175 into an airport with an operating control tower and a shimmer of ice on the pavement. The Tower's ATIS confirms the presence of ice with this statement: "Runway Two Eight, MU forty-three, forty-one, twenty-eight, at one zero one eight Zulu, ice." MU is pronounced as "myew" (sounds like a cow with sinus problems) and indicates surface friction value. The higher the MU value, the less effective braking performance becomes and the more difficult directional control becomes.
