Question of the Week
Would you rather go to a large aviation event, like EAA AirVenture, the NBAA convention, or AOPA expo, or read about it online?
I want to go. There's no substitute for being there in the thick of it.
I'd like to go, but it's far more practical to stay home (and not miss work). Besides, the aviation news outlets provide excellent coverage. So, for content, I'm not really missing anything by not going.
I'd like to go when I have a specific interest in a manufacturer or product. In that case, nothing can beat face-to-face interaction.
Events like this are about news and progress in aviation, but the real reason for going is camaraderie. It's the people that make the show. That's why I'd prefer to go.
It's a double edged sword. Some of these events have become so popular that they're difficult to plan for and attend. I'm sure they'll figure it out eventually, but for now, I'll watch from my lounge chair.
