Lycoming engines ... again. This week, AVweb wants to know if owners should have to incur the replacement charges for possibly defective crankshafts.

Should owners have to pay to replace suspect crankshafts built into their engines? Which statement most closely matches your take on the Lycoming situation?

YES. Or would you rather we bankrupt Lycoming?
NO. I don't know whose fault it is, but it's not the buyer's fault.
YES. Let Lycoming find out if it can survive the repercussions of retroactively increasing the purchase price of 5100 engines by roughly 20%.
NO. Even Lycoming can't at this time prove there's anything wrong with the crankshafts. That's a lot of money for an owner to pay for Lycoming's peace of mind. Let Lycoming pay to test the cranks and retire only those that actually are sub-standard.
