Question of the Week

When aircraft and bird meet, at least one fatality is relatively assured. Which comment best represents your thoughts on the subject of the bird/wildlife threat?
I've had near hits with birds multiple times. If they were not so maneuverable, I doubt I'd be here to participate in this week's question. We need this addressed, and soon.
Fortunately, they get out of the way. I think that's a better defense than we'll be able to dream up in my lifetime ... even after millions of man-hours -- and millions of dollars -- spent.
I can only be worried about so many things. What a bird might or might not do is not one of them. If some sort of accurate reporting comes my way, that's great. Until then, it's a big sky...
I think we could all benefit from a better understanding ... perhaps even a forecast ... of bird migratory activity. Even if it served as nothing more than a reminder to be more vigilant, this is good information to have.
A bird forecast? Migratory patterns may be well understood, but it will take some convincing before I believe anyone can accurately predict the number of birds traveling through a particular slab of airspace at any particular time.
I'd like to see some sort of wildlife report included in my preflight briefing, if not standard then as an option. It would be nice to know that geese, deer, starlings, a herd of rare wild cows, whatever, are expected or have been witnessed on or in the vicinity of my destination airport or route of flight.
