Question of the Week

With NASA aggressively recruiting astronauts for their 2009 graduating class, we thought it might be a good time to ask AVweb readers what constitutes "the right stuff" these days. (related story)

What should it take to be an astronaut?

Only very experienced test pilots with high turbine time need apply.
Applicants should be pilots — but other experience is valuable, too.
Aviation experience is helpful, but brains and the ability to do the assigned tasks is more important.
Brains and ability are more important than flying skills. (Computers do all the flying, anyway.)
It should be opened up to ordinary people (non-pilots) who can pass the physical and make a contribution.
