Question of the Week

The Environmental Protection Agency says it's getting a lot of inquiries from people concerned about the impact of aviation on the environment. What should aviation's response be?

Is it time to limit our flying for the sake of the environment?

Flying is the most environmentally benign form of transportation, but we're not getting our message out. Everyone in aviation needs to band together to get the facts to the public.
In most cases, flying is the most efficient way to move people, but we should be careful to make sure that whenever possible, we don't fly if there are greener alternatives.
All aircraft operators need to take stock of their flying activities and limit themselves to flights that balance convenience with environmental stewardship.
Face it: Flying is an environmentally hazardous hobby for most general aviation pilots, and recreational flight should be taxed and regulated to reflect that.
