Question of the Week

Reader Brinley Peck is wondering if there is any appetite for an "owner maintenance" category of small, simple aircraft in the U.S. as there is in Canada. We'd like to know what you think.

Should the U.S. consider an "owner maintenance" category for small, simple certified aircraft?

It doesn't make any sense from a safety point of view.
It could work for some maintenance but not major repairs.
As long as the aircraft is for personal use only, it seems reasonable.
It's allowed in LSAs and experimentals. Why not in certified?
Sure — anything to reduce the cost of flying.
OTHER (My opinion doesn't appear as a choice.)
