Question of the Week

The Maverick, the first 'flying car,' has been approved for production as a Light Sport Aircraft. It's essentially a dune buggy with a parasail. It begs the question: What is an airplane?

What is an airplane in the modern context?

Anything that uses aerodynamic forces to keep itself aloft is an airplane, regardless of method and propulsion.
Technology is blurring the accepted definition of airplane, and it needs revisiting.
The Maverick and other things like it are fringe vehicles that are only loosely defined as airplanes.
Wings, fuselage and empennage.
Only certified aircraft are true airplanes.
OTHER (My opinion doesn't appear as a choice — but maybe I'll send you an e-mail)
