Question of the Week

Now that Sport Pilot certificate holders have been flying around for five years without a noticeable rate of medically-related accidents, is it time to reconsider the medical requirements for all private pilots?

Should the Class Three Medical be abandoned?

Yes. Medically-related accidents are extremely rare and the medical requirement is another deterrent to people becoming pilots.
Perhaps an initial medical should be required, and then it should be up to the pilot to self-certify.
Medicals should still be required, but the frequency should be extended.
Leave it the way it is. Fit pilots are safer pilots, and the spectre of regular medicals keeps us focused.
It should be tougher. Flying an airplane requires skills that are not comparable to other activities, and we need to be at the top of our game.
OTHER (My opinion doesn't appear as a choice — but maybe I'll send you an e-mail)
