Question of the Week

The FAA now says an airline first officer should have a minimum of 700 hours, up from 250 but far less than the 1,500 that was originally proposed. Does the number of hours really matter?

How many hours should a first officer have?

The FAA hit the sweet spot of necessary experience and a reasonable vetting period for professional pilots at 700 hours.
700 hours is more hours than necessary.
700 hours isn't enough.
It's the training that matters, not the number of hours.
Training only covers the basics. Experience is what counts.
