The NTSB has had its say, and the recommendations are, in some cases, pretty equivocal.

Can an the Reno Air Races be made safer for spectators?

It's inherently dangerous, and it's what you sign on for when you buy a ticket.
The society should take the recommendations to heart and implement them as well as they can without affecting the core appeal of the event.
The NTSB should have been a little tougher in its recommendations.
The FAA needs to step in and make this event safer.
Air racing is outdated, and the event should be cancelled.
