1) Picture of the Week: AVweb's Flying Photography Showcase
- (Jun 25 2008) With well over 100 submissions to this week's contest, we're serving up a miniature "Greatest Hits" version of our regular "Picture of the Week" contest. We've got all the popular themes this week — from wing-walkers to lightning to balloons. And you're sure to find many other favorites (cute kids, beautiful skylines, and perfect approaches among them) in the "POTW" slideshow on AVweb's home page. William Derrickson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania kicks off the festivities with the afore-mentioned wing-walker ... .
2) Picture of the Week
- (Jun 14 2006) As summer approaches, the number of submissions to our "Picture of the Week" contest is climbing. We received nearly 150 different photos this week — which made it tougher than usual to pick a winner, but somehow we managed. After several rounds of second-guessing and moving photos around on our "POTW" drive, we finally decided to award this week's top honor to California's Larry Newman. Larry's contribution is yet another entry in the growing category of "Skycrane Pictures" — possibly our favorite yet in this category. Like all first-place winners, Larry will receive a top-quality baseball cap adorned with the AVweb logo. For your chance to win one of these caps — and the opportunity to share your photo with tens of thousands of aviation enthusiasts worldwide — submit your own photos here. Each week, we'll choose a first-place winner and run as many runner-up photos as we can possibly squeeze in!
3) Picture of the Week
- (Jun 1 2006) AVweb experienced some server problems over the weekend, and many "POTW" submissions were lost. Some came through mangled or partially submitted, but many have disappeared into the cyber-aether. (Which is why our "POTW" selection this week is a bit smaller than usual.) We apologize for the inconvenience, but if you've submitted a photo for consideration during the last seven days (and you don't see it in this week's winners), then please take a few moments to re-submit. We realize it's a hassle for some of you, but -- well, quite frankly, we really like looking at your pictures every week and can't help but feel like we've missed some really good ones this week. (We were able to make out a few tail fins and the tops of some heads in many of the mangled shots.) Thankfully, the pictures that did come through were stellar. We'd put Kevin Orr's winning photo up against anyone's, from any week! For those of you astounded at Kevin's luck in getting such a terrific shot, consider this: He didn't even have to leave his driveway to do it. Not a bad day's work, Kevin. We're cutting you a check for one official AVweb "POTW" baseball hat even as you read this -- watch your mailbox! Remember: Kevin won this week's hat because he took time to submit his photo. We'd love to see yours!
4) Picture of the Week
- (Mar 22 2006) Welcome back to AVweb's "Picture of the Week." Each week, we sort through the top aviation photos submitted by AVweb readers and choose our favorites. We share the best of the best right here and award the number-one photographer with an Official AVweb Baseball Cap. This week's winning cap goes to Billy Walker of Phoenix, Arizona. Billy's submitted before, but the fun perspective in this week's photo took him all the way to the top spot. Congratulations, Billy — your hat is on the way!
5) AVweb's Picture of the Week ...
- (Sep 14 2005) We're sorely tempted to put on our stern face and wag our collective finger at you guys. For the third week in a row, the number of pictures submitted to our "POTW" contest is lagging well below the average for this time of year. But, frankly, the photos that are coming in are uniformly spectacular. With only 48 pictures submitted this week, we had 27 in our final round of selections. The odd result is that we're getting fewer submissions but working harder to decide which ones make the final cut. We'd like to have more pictures, of course — but as long as the quality is this high, we really can't complain. (Instead, we'll beg: Please send us pictures!)
6) AVweb's Picture of the Week ...
- (Mar 2 2005) Another week, another great batch of photos from AVweb readers — man, this is the life! Suzy Kryzanowicz of Michigan takes home top honors this week. (She'll also be taking home an official AVweb baseball cap for her efforts.) Once you've marvelled at Suzy's prize-winning photo, scroll down for thrills! excitement! a Mustang! — and a few chuckles.
7) AVweb's Picture of the Week ...
- (Sep 29 2004) Hey, is everyone feeling all right? Is there a pilot's flu going around? Did you all skip work this week to drive out to the Mojave and watch SpaceShipOne make its X-Prize run? We have to ask because — well, frankly, you didn't send us many pictures this week. And we like pictures! Lucky for us, the ones you did send in — like this week's winning photo from Robert Bismuth of Seattle — are pretty eye-catching. See for yourself.
8) AVweb's Picture of the Week ...
- (Sep 22 2004) Every once in a while, a theme emerges from your photo submissions without any stretch of the imagination on our part. This week's clear theme was "skylines" — more specifically, skylines and stormfronts. Would you believe that one out of every four "POTW" entries was a skyline photo? C'mon, 'fess up — you guys got together and planned this, didn't you? ... Fine, just sit there and stare — we're on to you, and we'll catch you before this is all over. In the meantime, take a look at three of the best horizon photos — plus one extra pic, just for good measure.
