| Many of our best news tips come from our loyal readers. In appreciation, AVweb
presents our AVscoop Award for the best news
tips we receive. Winners receive various AVweb goodies such as AVweb caps
and mugs.
AVweb gets the majority of our news from a variety of regular news sources
including wire service and local news stories appearing in national publications, press
releases from national aviation related associations, unions, companies and the federal
government. Please do not submit news tips from such sources.
Our aim is to encourage submission of the sort of aviation news that doesn't make the
national news, something that is a breaking news story or "insider" information.
In some cases these will be items of local interest from the perspective of the national
news organizations, but which are of significant interest to aviators no matter where they
live. Some news items which appear in national news services contain few details, while
local news or personal contact can provide more details and often, more factual
information. Often, individuals, through personal contact or involvement, know before
anyone else the details of an important news story. In other cases they can help break a
news story when some group, company or organization is trying to keep the lid on it for
their own, but not others' benefit, or when false or misleading information has been given
to the media. These, then, are the sort of news items we are looking for.
