There's Nothing Light About
This Jet
Meet the latest and greatest member of the world's most successful
family of light jets, the Citation CJ4. It delivers more
speed and greater range while retaining the pilot-friendly and
single-pilot-certified operations of the CJ family. The CJ4's
cabin is larger, more comfortable, and outfitted with new entertainment
and communication systems. All this equals an aircraft that is flexible
enough to meet the requirements of many mid-sized aircraft at light jet
costs, plus the service reputation of Cessna to back up your decision.
It's what every light jet aspires to be.

CESSNA
SELLS 30 AIRPLANES AT SUN 'N FUN Cessna says it took 30
orders for propeller-driven aircraft at Sun 'n Fun and fingers are
crossed that the long-awaited recovery may actually be taking hold. In a
news release, the company said it sold 16 new Corvalis TTX
high-performance singles, which were introduced at the show. It also
sold 13 high-wing piston singles and one Caravan. "The opening days of
Sun 'n Fun were very positive, and while the storm on Thursday
interrupted that mood somewhat, the exhibitors and the crowds bounced
back to finish the show strong," said Mark Paolucci, Cessna's senior
vice president of Sales and Marketing. Related

FAA
BILL MAINTAINS PRIVACY PROGRAM The House version of the FAA
reauthorization bill passed last Friday contains an amendment that would
maintain the Blocked Aircraft Registration Request (BARR) program and
allow aircraft owners to prevent Internet tracking of their aircraft's
movements. The amendment, if it survives the conference stage of the
legislative process in which the Senate and House merge their versions
of the authorization bill, could trump a proposed rule by the FAA to
permit N-number blocking only if a "valid security risk" exists. As we
reported
last month, the FAA rule, whose comment period closed Monday, would
require those asking to block their aircraft registrations to prove "a
verifiable threat to person, property or company, including a threat of
death, kidnapping or serious bodily harm against an individual, a recent
history of violent terrorist activity in the geographic area in which
the transportation is provided, or a threat against a company." NBAA
mounted a furious lobbying effort, saying the BARR program is important
in competitive business environments. The lobbying apparently bore fruit
with House heavyweight John Mica, R-Fla. More...

NEW
MEXICO CITATION ON THE BLOCK A key plank in the election
platform of New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez will likely be nailed down
in a couple weeks as the state gets rid of the Citation Bravo that was
operated by the governor's office. The plane became a focal point of
Martinez's campaign and she called it an "ultimate symbol of waste and
excess." It's not clear how the governor is getting around the sparsely
populated state, which has relatively few airports with airline service.

NYPD,
FAA INVESTIGATING NEW YORK BEACH LANDING According to New
York news outlets, a Piper Cherokee landed on Rockaway Beach Monday
evening after the pilot claimed to have "teensy weensy" roughness in his
engine. The landing prompted an immediate response by NYPD air and
ground units who reported that the three people aboard were not injured.
However, a recording of the event captured by LiveATC.net reveals that
the pilot asked if he could land on the beach, and when a JFK controller
said he could not, the pilot shortly reported both a sick passenger and
the rough engine. You
can hear the recording here (MP3). The aircraft had taken off from
Farmingdale on Long Island, but its destination was unknown. According
to NBC News, the landing occurred at Beach 56th St. and Shorefront
Parkway. More...
UNITED
FLIGHT LANDS WITH SMOKE, DARK PANEL United Airlines, the FAA
and NTSB are looking into an incident Monday in which a United Airlines
Airbus A320 departed New Orleans and immediately declared an emergency
due to smoke in the cockpit. As the situation progressed, the crew
reported that it lost all power to its flight instrument, although the
comm radios continued to function. The flight was en route from New
Orleans to San Francisco when the incident occurred. The pilot told
controllers: "Flight 497 we need to vector back to the airport. We have
a smoke issue with the airplane." Shortly thereafter, the crew declared
an emergency and landed at New Orleans, possibly with impaired braking
and steering, since the aircraft exited the runway and got its nosewheel
buried in mud. The emergency slides were deployed and all 105 passengers
and crew exited safely. More...
