CHINA'S FIRST GA FLY-IN POSTPONED
The first-ever general aviation fly-in in China, which was set for later this month, has been postponed indefinitely, according to AOPA. The event was scheduled for Sept. 22 to 24, with about 20 privately owned helicopters from around the country expected to gather at an airport outside Beijing. However, a helicopter operated by the Beijing Police Department crashed last month into a reservoir near the fly-in site, killing four of the five people on board. AOPA China said the crash drew "attention and safety concerns from the public and the authorities," and the ongoing investigation has raised questions about whether the airspace will continue to be accessible. BIZJET MARKET GETS MIXED REVIEWS
Raleigh, N.C.-based aircraft broker Jetcraft Corporation says those in the market for a business aircraft are looking beyond the current economic uncertainty, and demand for certain types of planes remains steady. In a statement issued last week. the company says the market seems largely unaffected by the "macroeconomic events" of the past few months and the company is "guardedly optimistic" the current strong sales will be maintained. "We believe that confidence in the business jet market is holding because the volume of transactions has remained quite stable," said Jetcraft spokesman Jahid Fazal-Karim. "Business jet purchasers are generally acquiring aircraft based on anticipated lift requirements six to 18 months from today. This trend illustrates continued confidence as globalization of business continues. The need for long range business jets, particularly in emerging markets, is here to stay." BOEING'S NEWEST FREIGHTER READY TO FLY
Boeing will deliver the first 747-8 Freighter to launch customer Cargolux on Sept. 19, the company said on Friday. Cargolux will fly the airplane away from Paine Field in Everett, Wash., that morning and put the airplane into revenue service. The second freighter out of the hangar also will go to Cargolux, with delivery set for Sept. 21. The carrier has a total of 13 of the new airplanes on order. The 747-8 is 250 feet, 2 inches long, which is 18 feet and 4 inches longer than the 747-400 freighter, with the capability to carry an additional 22 tons and adding more than 4,000 cubic feet of volume. INDIAN COMPANY LOOKS AT FRAX
A giant Indian corporation is reportedly in talks with Florida-based Avantair to establish a fractional business aircraft operation in India. Tata Group, one of India's largest conglomerates, is said by the Times of India to be in the early stages of negotiations with Avantair, which is based in Clearwater, Fla., and flies a fractional fleet of Piaggio Avanti twin pusher turboprops. The Times says Tata intends to model the Indian operation after the U.S. fractional program. More...
