FUEL
LEAKS REPORTED IN DREAMLINERS The FAA has ordered inspections
of Boeing 787 aircraft after improperly installed fuel line hardware was
discovered on in-service aircraft and on the production line. The
inspections were ordered after two airlines reported fuel leaks on their
Dreamliners. The agency gave airlines a week to check the lockwires and
another two weeks to look at the connectors. Boeing said half of the 38
airplanes that have been delivered have been checked and they're working
on a production-line fix. More...

MEBA
NEXT WEEK IN DUBAI The Middle East Business Aviation show
starts Dec. 11 in Dubai and while the market has cooled in that part of
the world it's still expected to be a big show. There are still plenty
of people in that part of the world with the resources to buy or replace
aircraft and the show organizers make a point of stressing that they're
attracting high-net-worth individuals, government reps and corporate
decision-makers. Hundreds of exhibitors will have booths at the show and
there will be about 30 aircraft in the static display. For the first
time this year there will be a U.S. Pavilion and there is a strong U.S.
presence at the show. More...

NEXTGEN TECHNOLOGY EXPANDS IN COLORADO New technology now
available will help pilots better cope with bad weather in the mountains
near Montrose, in the western part of Colorado, the FAA said this week.
The Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) system makes it possible for air
traffic controllers to track aircraft in mountainous areas that lack
radar coverage, the FAA said. "This system will allow pilots to fly
search and rescue missions in weather conditions that would have
previously kept them grounded," said Michael Huerta, acting FAA
administrator. The system also will enable pilots to land in conditions
that previously caused diversions or flight delays, Huerta said.

AFRICA
FUELS BIG BIZJET SALES Growing trade ties between African
countries and China may further fuel the already-buoyant market for
long-range business jets. As oil- and resource-rich areas in Africa like
Nigeria and Mozambique develop their economies, the demand for consumer
goods made in China is on the increase. However, airline service between
Africa and China is an expensive and time-consuming process, creating
the perfect set of circumstances for the right aircraft.
