VLJs: Aviation's Great Hope or Just the Latest Hype?back to top

Everywhere you look, from manufacturing to air travel, light jets are the hottest topic in aviation. The Teal Group's Richard Aboulafia and Air Taxi Association President Joe Leader have different visions of the future for very light jets, and both are well worth hearing from. If you missed either of these recent podcasts, here's your chance to hear them side by side.

RICHARD ABOULAFIA ON THE VLJ 'EXPLOSION'
As Eclipse Aviation continues to struggle to make its production targets and other players in the very light jet market ramp up production to achieve their modest sales goals, aviation analyst Richard Aboulafia says the impact of the little jets on the overall industry is about what it can and should be. He told AVweb's Russ Niles the VLJ sector is and will continue to be a nice addition to the regular business jet market and that the bold predictions that VLJs would fill the airways will be looked back upon with embarassed nostalgia.

AIR TAXI ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT JOE LEADER RESPONDS
In last Monday's AVwebAudio podcast, we spoke with aviation analyst Richard Aboulafia, whose consistent message has been that very light jets and the air taxi business they are helping to spawn will not be the market explosion that some are claiming. He spoke with AVweb's Russ Niles from VLJ West, a forum for owners and operators of the new jets held in San Diego earlier this week.
