Sun 'n Fun 2008 is now behind us, and this year
AVweb brought you no fewer than thirteen exclusive audio
interviews and features, direct from the show. That's a lot of audio in
a short time, so just in case you missed any of them, we're going to run
down the whole list (with links!) in this special edition of the
AVwebAudio newsletter.
Before we get started, a very special thank you to audio
sponsors Bose Corporation
and WxWorx XM WX Satellite

whose support made these podcasts possible. Please click through on the

LIGHTNING
AHEAD! AVIDYNE BRINGS SFERICS BACK TO THE COCKPIT IN 21ST CENTURY
STYLE For the past five years, Sferics technology has taken a
backseat to datalinked weather as a means of skirting convective
weather. But Avidyne hopes to change that with the introduction of a new
state-of-the-art lightning detector system called TWX670. Like
Stormscope and Strike Finder technology, it detects and plots distant
lightning strikes, but unlike earlier equipment, it paints strikes in
cell-like patterns color-coded by threat level. AVweb's Paul
Bertorelli talked to Tom Harper from Avidyne about this new
product.

RETURN OF
THE KING THE BENDIX/KING GLASS PANEL Aviydne and
Garmin have largely owned the market for light aircraft electronic
flight display systems in recent year, while Bendix/King has been
dormant. But later this year, the company will begin delivering its new
Apex Edge glass system, a combination PFD/MFD integrated package
suitable for retrofit in older aircraft. In this podcast, Bendix/King's
Dan Barks gives an update on this major product line.

GPS IN
YOUR POCKET: CONTROL VISION IS HARD AT WORK MAKING THE DREAM A
REALITY Control Vision is well known for its extensive and
flexible line of PDA-based GPS navigators. Although these products are
flexible, buyers have asked for solutions that require fewer wires and
individual components. This week at Sun 'n Fun, Control Vision responded
with a new product based on HP's diminutive iPaq Travel Companion. At
$695, it combines both turn-by-turn ground navigation and a rich moving
map for aviation use in a single package, with Bluetooth capability to
reduce the wiring clutter. In this podcast, Control Vision's Jay
Humbard gives AVweb the details.

CESSNA'S
NEXT-GEN AIRPLANE IS STILL ON TRACK, BUT IT'LL BE A
WHILE Cessna's VP of sales and marketing, Roger Whyte,
told AVWeb this week that even though it's focusing much of its
attention on the recently acquired Columbia composite line, Cessna is
still on track to build the so-called next-generation single. It will
occupy a narrow niche between the 182/206 and the 350 and 400 from
Columbia. Whyte also updated us on the Skycatcher project, which is soon
to begin production in China.

AVEMCO:
NEW POLICY ALLOWS CFIS TO INSTRUCT IN THEIR OWN
AIRPLANES Some CFIs who are also aircraft owners make a
little money on the side by instructing in their own airplanes, although
insurance policies don't cover them for the risks. Avemco's Jim
Lauerman told AVweb in this podcast that the company will
soon introduce a specific policy product to address this tiny niche of
the market. Premiums will be a fraction of the expensive commercial
policies FBOs and flight schools have to buy, but Lauerman believes it
won't affect those businesses measurably.

TORNADO
ALLEY TURBOS FOR OLDER CIRRUS SR22S If your older SR22 isn't

SR22s. TAT's Tim Roehl told AVweb about these systems when
we visited the TAT booth on Thursday.
