Sally Crossfield Farley, one of the late Scott Crossfield's six children, has created the Scott Crossfield Foundation to, among other things, carry on the A. Scott Crossfield Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Award. We caught up with Sally to find out about the foundation, but also what it was like being raised by a gentle, quiet and humble man whose day job just happened to include flying at Mach 3 in planes like the X-15.

But their families are also victims, and retired Marine Corps Col. Jack Howell is using aviation to help the children of those soldiers find solace and direction. The Teens-in-Flight program has already helped dozens of young people and is on the cusp of becoming a national program for kids who have already paid a heavy price in America's conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq and for those whom life is more challenging than others.
