AVIATION
SAFETY ASKS, "WILL THE FAA'S PROPOSED CHANGES HELP PREVENT ANOTHER
MIDAIR IN THE HUDSON RIVER CORRIDOR?"
The FAA reacted quickly
to the August 8 midair collision between a Piper Lance and a tour
helicopter over New York City's Hudson River, proposing a series of
operational and ATC changes designed to facilitate separation of
fixed-wing and rotorcraft traffic. But will the FAA's proposals help? In
the inaugural episode of a new podcast series here on AVweb,
Aviation Safety magazine's Editor-in-Chief Jeb Burnside discusses
these and other questions with Newark, N.J. tower controller Eddie
Kragh and with Jeff Smith, chairman of the Eastern Region
Helicopter Council.
